MEN'S SOCCER BATTLES #10 NATIONALLY RANKED STEVENS TECH. TO 2-1 DEFEAT

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Colonels held tough with #10 nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology despite losing 2-1 on Wednesday evening.  Stevens record improves to 7-1-1 while Wilkes falls to 7-4.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Carson Pryor finished off a Stephen Dunbar cross to the near post.  The Colonels would equalize in the 39th minute off of a great goal by Junior Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington).  Senior Geoffrey Arentz (Stevens, PA/Lancaster Catholic ) played a superb through ball that McAnena ran onto took a touch and slotted the ball on the ground into a wide open far post, to tie the score at one.

Stevens would get the game-winning goal in the 54th minute when Curtis Stecyk was able to poke a scrambled ball just outside the six-yard box, underneath Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) and into an empty net.

The Ducks outshot the Colonels 22-2.  Marr made six saves in net for the Colonels despite taking the loss.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when they open up Freedom Conference play at Schmidt Stadium vs. Eastern University.  The homecoming match is scheduled for 5 p.m. as Wilkes looks to avenge last year's 3-0 defeat at Eastern.
