With the loss Wilkes falls to 7-5 (0-1) while Eastern improves to 9-2 (1-0). The Colonels fell behind in the 6th minute when a hustle play to clear the ball in front of their goal ended up finding the back of the net for an own goal putting Eastern up 1-0 early. Eastern would add another goal in the 36th minute when Zach Johnson was able to shoot the ball into an empty net after a good initial save by Wilkes goalkeeper Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run). Despite being down 2-0 in the first half Wilkes was able to outshoot Eastern 8-5 and out corner kick them 4-2. Johnson would score the final goal of the match for the Eagles in the 67th minute when he was able to finish another rebound into an empty net, putting the Eagles up 3-0. The Colonels return to action next Saturday when they host Freedom Conference foe FDU-Florham. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 P.M. at Schmidt Stadium. Print Friendly Version
