WILKES VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS DELAWARE VALLEY IN FREEDOM THRILLER, 3-2
DOYLESTOWN, PA – Visiting Wilkes University stormed back from two point down in the fifth and deciding set to post a 3-2 win at Delaware Valley College in Freedom Conference volleyball action Tuesday night.
Wilkes captured the match by scores of 12-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-25, and 18-16. Wilkes improves to 10-9 overall and 3-1 in conference matches following the win while Delaware Valley drops to 8-11 on the year, 1-3 in Freedom matches.
After DVC took the first set with relative ease, Wilkes grabbed set two winning the last three points after the teams battled to 22-22. DVC took a 24-23 lead in set three before the Lady Colonels won the final three points taking a 2-1 set lead in the match after three games.
After the Aggies tied the match with a convincing 25-15 in in the fourth set, the final game proved to be a thriller. Wilkes went up 6-2 before DVC rallied back to tie 6-6. The Lady Colonels answered with a 9-6 lead before another DVC run tied the set at 9-9. After Wilkes took a 13-12 lead, DVC notched two straight points for its first match point. The Lady Colonels would not go away matching the next two points to take their first match point advantage at 15-14. One more DVC rally gave the Aggies a 16-15 lead, but it was short-lived as Wilkes tied the game and finally took the match when Casey Bohan (Harding/Wyoming Area) and Alisha Rupp (Shamokin, PA/Shamokin) blocked the final point for the Wilkes victory.
Bohan led the offense with 14 kills and two total blocks. Kelsey Yacko (Shamokin, PA/Shamokin) followed with 13 kills and two solo blocks, while Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) added 10 kills and 13 digs.
Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the passing game with 45 asissts, while Marissa Mallory (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) finished with a match-high 24 digs from her libero position.
Wilkes is back in action next Wednesday hosting Desales University at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
