WILKES MEN'S SOCCER SCORES FIVE GOALS IN WIN AT BAPTIST BIBLE

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – The Wilkes men's soccer team increased their season record to 5-1 with a 5-1 victory at Baptist Bible (2-4) on Monday afternoon in a makeup game previously rained out.

Senior Justin Szpilka (Sayville, NY/Connetquot) scored his first collegiate goal 29:22 into the match off of a pass from Tyler Young (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg). Szpilka received the cross from Young on the back post and volleyed the ball over the goalie into the far post. The Colonels outshot the Defenders 8-2 in the first half but were unable to put anymore into the net as the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

Michael Turner (Hudson, PA/Coughlin) increased the lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute when he finished a rebound off of Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington)'s initial shot that hit the post. Baptist Bible answered back with a goal of their own just two minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1. The Colonels made sure there would be no Defenders comeback as McAnena gave the Colonels a 3-1 lead just two minutes later. Freshman Ammar Sabanovic (Muncy, PA/Muncy) scored his first collegiate goal for the Navy and Gold in the 67th minute, with Nicholas Patricia (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) picking up his second assist of the day. Freshman John Stoner (Etters, PA/Red Land) added to the list of first collegiate goals when he was able to beat the Defenders goalkeeper with a shot in the 72nd minute.

Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) made three saves in goal while earning the victory for the Colonels.

The Colonels return to action Wednesday when they hit the road for a non-conference match at Penn College in Williasmport, PA. Kickoff is slated for 7 P.M.
