THREE FIRST HALF GOALS PROPEL COLONELS OVER WIDENER

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes men's soccer team capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend with a decisive 3-0 victory over the visiting Widener University Pride.  With the win the Colonels up their record to 3-1, while the Pride fall to 2-2-1.

The Colonels wasted very little time getting on the scoreboard as a beautifully played through ball from Michael Turner (Hudson, PA/Coughlin) found a streaking Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington) who shot one towards the far post, where an oncoming Nicholas Patricia (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) was able to outwork the defender and tap the ball into an empty net, giving the Colonels a 1-0 lead 3:25 into the game.  The Colonels offense continued to put pressure on the Pride's backline and forced a turnover deep in the Widener zone, where once again Turner was able to beat two defenders to the end line and serve a beautiful ball to McAnena who one time volleyed the ball into the back of the net to give the Colonels a 2-0 advantage just 6:41 into the contest.

The Colonels added another beautiful goal in the 33rd minute to put them up 3-0 when Junior Sebastian Moreno (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) played a deep cross to Abdullah Albannay (Kuwait City, Kuwait/Abdullah Jaber) who hit a one-time volley to the upper part of the goal.

With a comfortable 3-0 advantage entering the second half the Colonels defense shutdown Widener for the rest of the match and Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) made three saves earning his second win of the season and first shutout this season.

The Colonels had nine total shots on goal while holding the Pride to just four shots on goal.

Wilkes will look to continue their winning streak to three games when they travel to Baptist Bible College on Thursday for a 4:00 P.M. kickoff.
