WILKES VOLLEYBALL PICKS UP FIRST FREEDOM WIN WITH 3-0 DECISION OVER DVC
 
WILKES-BARRE – Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and Marissa Mallory (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) combined for 13 kills and 22 digs to lead host Wilkes University to a 3-0 victory over Delaware Valley College Wednesday night in the Marts Center.
 
With the win Wilkes records its first Freedom Conference victory of 2014 moving to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in conference matches. DVC drops to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in league games.
 
Wilkes rallied in the first set after trailing by five points to post a 25-20 win. DVC took a 17-10 lead in the second set before a furious Wilkes rally led to 15 straight points as the Lady Colonels battled back again taking a 25-17 victory to go up two sets. Wilkes clinched the match in the third posting a comfortable 25-13 decision in the decider.
 
Paskas led the Wilkes attack with eight kills and 10 digs. Mallory followed with five kills and 12 digs. Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Ellen Mook (Meadville, PA/Meadville) each contributed six kills while Benson added three solo blocks and Mook one block assist.
 
Setter Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) finished with a match-high 29 assists while libero Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) anchored the backline with a match-high 26 digs. Nothstein now stands just 13 digs away from breaking the school's career record for digs with 1,871.
 
Maria Cameron led DVC with six kills, nine digs and two solo blocks.
 
Wilkes takes to the road Saturday competing in the MAC crossover tri-match at Stevenson University. Wilkes faces Lebanon valley at 2:00 p.m. before playing the host Stevenson at 4:00 p.m.
