WILKES SWIMMING TEAMS FALL AT MARYWOOD IN FIRST DUAL MEET OF SEASON 10/18/2014 3:58:00 PM (Full Results)WILKES SWIMMING TEAMS FALL AT MARYWOOD IN FIRST DUAL MEET OF SEASON SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's swimming teams fell in their 2014-15 dual meet debuts Saturday afternoon at Marywood University. The Wilkes men dropped a 151-33 decision while the Lady Colonels fell 123-74. For the women, the relay team of Sarah Cole (Hanover Twp., PA/Wyoming Seminary), Beth Chmil, Gillian Gagliardi (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) and Cassie Morey broke the school record in the 200 medley with a time of 2:02.81, over three seconds better than the previous school mark. In the 400 freestyle relay, one of two relays scheduled in the meet, the team of Gagliardi, Megan Evers (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), Mandy Stickles and Lauren Merli (Jessup, PA/Valley View) finished second with a time of 4:14.21, good for a school record time. In individual competition, Merli finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:16.69. Cassie Morey recorded a third place time of 28.25 in the 50 freestyle, while Chmil set a school mark in the 200 IM with a school-best time of 2:27.81 capturing first place. Sarah Brozena (Larksville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) and Merli went second and third in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:12.34 and 1:13.13 respectively. Cole took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.91 while Chmil finished first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:42.36, both new school records in the events. For the Wilkes men. Mike Henne finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:20.17. Greg O'Malley (Binghamton, NY/Windsor) and Austin Paisley (Sugarloaf, PA/Hazleton Area) went fourth and fifth in the 50 freestyle with times of 23.94 and 25.90 respectively. Paisley also claimed a second place finish in the 100 backstroke coming in at 1:14.79. Will Hauze (Wapwallopen, PA/Holy Redeemer)'s 5:47.11 in the 500 freestyle set a new school record garnering second place in the event. Both Wilkes squads are back in the pool next Saturday traveling to Messiah College for a dual meet at 1:00 p.m.Print Friendly Version
