LADY COLONELS FIELD HOCKEY FALLS 1-0 AT FDU-FLORHAM IN FREEDOM SEMIFINALS

LADY COLONELS FIELD HOCKEY FALLS 1-0 AT FDU-FLORHAM IN FREEDOM SEMIFINALS

MADISON, NJ – Freedom Conference Offensive Player of the Year Niki Ikeda scored at the 40:22 minute mark for FDU-Florham as they went on to defeat the Lady Colonels 1-0 in the Freedom Conference semifinals.

In the first half FDU held Wilkes from taking a shot as they had a slim 5-0 advantage in shots for the first 35 minutes of play.  Alexi Reed made three saves in the cage for the Navy and Gold as both teams went into the locker room scoreless.

Ikeda scored five minutes into the second half when she drilled a rebound off of an initial shot into the back of the cage.  Wilkes had a great opportunity to tie the game when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 66th minute.  Maura Anistranski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) took the stroke for Wilkes, but unfortunately sent her shot wide of the cage.

Wilkes was outshot 9-4 for the game and out cornered 5-3.  Wilkes ends their season at 9-9.

FDU-Florham (13-7) advances to the Freedom Conference Championship game on Saturday where they will host Misericordia University for a shot at making it into the NCAA Tournament.
