After Wilkes opened on a 4-0 run to start the game, the Giants scored the next eight to lead 8-4 just two minutes into the game. Sharp shooter Ashley Evans nailed two three pointers during the 8-0 run for the Giants. After Wilkes tied it at 8-8, Keystone once again went on a run scoring the next seven to lead 15-8 with 16:11 remaining in the half. Wilkes chipped away at the Giants lead and took a lead of their own when Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) nailed a three-pointer after a fast-break to put the Lady Colonels up 27-26 with 10:35 to go in the first half. Wilkes opened up their biggest lead of the game 35-30 after Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) made two foul shots and hit a three-pointer; however, like Wilkes did throughout the first half the Giants clawed back into the game and took the first half lead for good on a Jerica Rode layup with 2:48 remaining in the half. The Giants ended the half on a 15-5 run and led the Navy and Gold 45-40 after 20 minutes of action.Wilkes struggled from the floor connecting on 35.7 percent (15-42) of their shots and made just 4-out-of-12 three-point attempts (33.3 percent). Basile missed just one shot (6-for-7) from the field in the first 20 minutes leading all Lady Colonels with 12 points and six rebounds. Keystone made 51.4 percent (18-35) of their shots including 4-out-of-8 from distance. Rode paved the way for the Giants in the first half with 12 points and seven boards. The Giants outrebounded the Lady Colonels 27-20, with Wilkes forcing 11 turnovers compared to just four for themselves.Wilkes opened the second half on a 10-6 run and trailed 51-50 with 16:14 to go in the game. Keystone responded again just like they did in the first half when Wilkes would trim the lead with a 7-0 run to break open the lead to 58-50 with 14:47 left in the contest. The Giants extended their lead to 10 (67-57) with 8:47 to go in the game. Despite being down 10 the Lady Colonels picked up their play on the defensive end and got some shots to fall their way as they stormed back to take a 71-68 lead with a 14-1 run. Basile scored nine of her career-high 26 points during the spurt that saw Wilkes lead with 4:14 to play.Keystone did not relinquish the lead for long as Jazmyn Robinson scored a layup to trim the lead to 71-70, and followed that score up with a nice dish inside to Rode for a fast break layup to regain the lead for the Giants at 72-71. On the next possession for Wilkes, Robinson pick pocketed Brown and went the length of the court for an easy layup to give the Giants a 74-71 lead with 3:05 remaining in the game. Wilkes next two possessions saw them come up empty on offense and Rode made another layup to extend the Giants lead to 76-71 with just over a minute to go in the game. The Lady Colonels got two late foul shots from Basile but were unable to make any shots from the field in the waning minute of the game as Keystone held on for the 78-73 victory.Basile led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting; she also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists. Brown had a double-double on the evening for Wilkes; she dropped 16 points, grabbed 14 boards and dished out four helpers. Wilkes shot 31.3 percent for the game (25-for-80), 20.8 percent from deep (5-for-24) and 81.8 percent (18-for-22) from the charity stripe. Wilkes was outrebounded 55-43 for the game but led in steals 12-1 and forced 21 turnovers. Keystone was led by Rode's monster double-double, where she posted 22 points and 18 rebounds (six on the offensive glass). Alyssa Cuomo chipped in with 15 points, six boards while Robinson finished the evening with 14 points, six assists and four boards at the point guard position. Keystone shot 46.9 percent from the field (30-for-64), 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from deep and 55 percent (11-for-20) from the foul line. Wilkes returns to action on Sunday, January 4th when they take on Neumann University in the opening game of the Gettysburg Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.Print Friendly Version
