Colonel Men's Basketball Holds on For Sixth Straight Win Posting 68-63 Decision Over Manhattanville
 
WILKES-BARRE – Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) and Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) combined for 38 points and seven three-pointers to lift host Wilkes University to a 68-63 victory over Manhattanville College in Freedom Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.
 
The win extends the Colonels win streak to six, its only loss coming in the season opener by one point to Richard Stockton. Wilkes stands 6-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in Freedom games heading into the semester break. Manhattanville drops to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league contests.
 
The teams traded baskets early before the visiting Valiants used a 12-4 run to take a 26-18 lead with 4:35 left in the first half. The Colonels responded with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes of action to take the advantage at the break up 27-26. Three-pointers from Stravinski and Wizar followed by a Tyler Jackson (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) jumper capped the spurt for Wilkes.
 
Manhattanville opened the second frame with a 8-2 run to take back the lead at 37-32 before another trey from Wizar and deep three-pointer from Stravinski on back-to-back possessions tied the game at 43 with 10:49 remaining.
 
A jumper from Wizar and inside score from Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) gave Wilkes its largest lead of the second half 50-45 with 8:11 left on the clock. Another jumper from Jackson followed by Wizar's second three of the game extended the advantage to seven at 61-54 with just over two minutes remaining.
 
Anthony Maestre kept Manhattanville within striking distance over the last 1:30 hitting two deep three-pointers to cut the Wilkes lead to two with :10 left on the clock. The Valiants were forced to foul on the next possession sending Jackson to the line for two. He hit the first upping the lead to three, 66-63, before missing the second. Jeremy Hartman (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Regional) dashed in for the offensive rebound on the miss and Manhattanville was forced to foul again with just :5 left. Wizar calmly sank both free throws clinching the home conference win for the Colonels.
 
Stravinski finished 7-of-17 from the field including 5-for-12 from deep. He added ten rebounds and four steals in 37 minutes of action. Wizar went 5-of-16 from the floor canning two three-pointers while adding five assists and three rebounds. Jackson and Brunner each added eight points in the win. Hinkel finished with seven points, ten rebounds and four steals.
 
Juan Camacho led the Valiants with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Maestre followed with 16 points and three treys along with six assists.
 
Wilkes dominated the boards outrebounding Manhattanville 40-27 including a season-high 16 offensive rebounds leading to 14 Colonel points. Wilkes also took advantage of 20 Valiant miscues converting those turnovers into 30 points.
 
Wilkes remains idle until next weekend when the Colonels travel cross-town to play in the Monarch Classic hosted by King's College. Wilkes faces Susquehanna on Friday at 6:00 p.m. for a contest against Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Scandlon Gymnasium.
