WILKES MEN'S SOCCER FALL BEHIND EARLY, UNABLE  TO MOUNT COMEBACK

EDWARDSVILLE, PA -- Gettysburg College scored two goals within an eight minute span in the first half as they went on to defeat the Colonels 3-1 in the opening game of the 2014 season for both squads. Gettysburg stands at 1-0 on the season while Wilkes falls to 0-1.

An unfortunate deflection for the Colonels allotted Bullets Henry Smith to get in behind the Colonels back line as he was able to slot in a shot off a breakaway. Eight minutes later KJ DePontes scored a shot into the far left post off of Smith's feed to put the Bullets up 2-0.

In the 57th minute the Bullets knotted their third goal of the match off a well designed set piece that caught the Colonels napping defensively. DePontes was easily able to tap the ball across the line after one touch combination play from Kyle Franks and Ryan Kennedy.

The colonels got on the board in the 79th minute after a scramble in front of the net led to Michael Hasbrouck (Vestal, NY/Vestal) scoring his first collegiate goal, with Thomas Sebia (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) getting credit with the assist.

The Colonels were outshot 15-5 for the match. Colonels goalie Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) made six saves on the evening.

Wilkes returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Scranton, PA for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game with Marywood University.
