TWO SECOND HALF GOALS PROPEL WOMEN'S SOCCER OVER MORAVIAN 8/30/2014 7:16:00 PM Box Score TWO SECOND HALF GOALS PROPEL WOMEN'S SOCCER OVER MORAVIAN BETHLEHEM, PA -- The Lady Colonels used two second half goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Moravian, their first of the 2014 season.  Wilkes climbs to .500 on the short season at 1-1 while Moravian falls to 1-1.The first half saw Wilkes get outshot 7-3 including a shot off the crossbar by Moravian's Kristen Schall in the 28th minute.  Wilkes goalkeeper Alyssa Young (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) making her Lady Colonels debut in net recorded two save in the first 45 minutes of play.In the 61st minute, Wilkes broke a scoreless match when they were rewarded a penalty kick after a foul took place inside the 18.  Brittany Gurreri (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) stepped up to the spot for the Lady Colonels and knocked the shot into the back of the net to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead.  Just over seven minutes later Katie Hughes (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) scored an unassisted goal for Wilkes when she sent a shot from 25 yards out over the Moravian goalie and into the upper left corner. Neither team would score over the last twenty minutes of the game as Young notched her first career shutout while collecting five total saves.  Wilkes was outshot 16-9 for the game and out cornered 5-3; however, they took advantage of their opportunities that came about in picking up their first win of the season. Wilkes returns to action next Friday when they head to Union College for the Union tournament in Schenechdaty, N.Y.  The Lady Colonels open with UMASS Boston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, followed by a 1:00 p.m. match Saturday against host Union College.  Print Friendly Version
