DVC RUSHING ATTACK LEADS TO 54-35 WIN OVER WILKES FOOTBALL
 
DOYLESTOWN, PA – Delaware Valley's Chris Smallwood rushed for 213 yards and six touchdowns to lead the host Aggies to a 54-35 win over Wilkes University Saturday night in the first night game in DVC history.
 
Wilkes drops to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in MAC play while DVC improves to 2-0 and 1-0 in league games.
 
DVC took a 7-0 lead to begin the game when Smallwood took a handoff 49 yards for an opening score. Wilkes responded on its second dive going seven plays and 50-yards before PJ Incremona (Wood Ridge, NJ/Wood Ridge) ran in from six yards out to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:22 left in the first.
 
The Colonels grab the lead after a DVC punt when Jonathan Conklin (Sussex, NJ/Vernon) found Tim Bousson (Shamokin, PA/Shamokin) for a six yard touchdown pass with 4:56 on the clock in the first frame. DVC tied the game for the second time at 14-14 just before the close of the first quarter when Smallwood went in from one yard out capping an eight play, 67-yard drive.
 
Smallwood continued his fine day on the ground scoring his third rushing touchdown of the first half, this time running in from five yards out to give DVC a 21-14 lead with 5:35 left in the half. After the Colonels were forced to punt late in the first half, Jeremy Hartman (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands Regional) recovered a DVC fumble to give Wilkes the ball back in DVC territory. From there, Ryan Dailey (Easton, PA/Wilson) connected with fullback Nick Dawson (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville) for a one-yard score to tie the game against at 21-21 as the teams headed to the break.
 
Smallwood continued where he left off at the start of the third quarter scoring his fourth touchdown of the night going in from 42-yards out to give DVC a 28-21 lead with 12:39 left in the stanza.
 
Another Conklin touchdown pass tied the game for a fourth time at 28-28 as the senior hit Jacob Brook (Layton, NJ/Kittatinny) for a 15-yard score on fourth and five. DVC wasted little time taking back the advantage as Smallwood scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the game, a 34-yard scoring run making it 35-28 Aggies with 8:34 left in the third.
 
Conklin came to the rescue again for Wilkes, this time receiving the ball catching a 16-yard strike from Dailey to tie the game at 35-35 with 5:13 on the third quarter clock.
 
From there, DVC's Aaron Wilmer threw back-to-back touchdown passes and Smallwood went in for a record sixth time to push the DVC lead to 54-35 with just 7:44 left in the game.
 
Dailey threw for a career-high 323 yards on 29-for-56 passing and two touchdowns. Conklin finished with two touchdown passes.
 
Incremona led the Wilkes rushing attack with 60 yards and one score. Three Colonels receivers went for at least 50 yards receiving as Conlkin (8 catches/85 yards 1 TD), Bousson (4 catches/73 yards/1 TD) and Hartman (2 catches/51 yards) led the group.
 
Tanner Stengel (Allentown, PA/Parkland) led the Wilkes defense with nine tackles.

The Wilkes offense also ran 113 plays, a Division III regulation game record.
 
Wilkes returns home next Saturday hosting Lycoming College at 1:00 p.m. on Homecoming a Schmidt Stadium. Wilkes graduate and Wisconsin head men's basketball coach Bo Ryan '69 will be at the game as the past Wilkes lettermen and letterwomen are honored at halftime.
