SELINSGROVE, PA – A first half goal in the 24
th minute was all the Crusaders from Susquehanna University needed as they held off the Colonels 2-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
The Colonels suffered their fourth straight shutout loss and stand at 2-8 on the season while the Crusaders improved to 4-4-2.
Gannon Keller scored at the 23:48 mark when his vertical run out of the central midfield and was not tracked and he was left wide alone on top of the 18 yard box. Nick Fecci found Keller the ball who beat
Kyle Romm (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) 1v1 to the bottom left corner. Wilkes was outshot 9-3 in the half but held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks taken.
In the 51
st minute Wilkes was denied their best scoring chance by the post.
Abdullah Albannay (Kuwait City, Kuwait/Abdullah Jaber) hit a solid left footed volley destined for the back of the net only to come up empty as the ball clanged off the post and out of danger. Two minutes later the Crusaders padded their lead off of a corner kick. David Trank served the ball into the mix off of the corner and found a streaking Joe DeLuca's head for his third goal of the season.
Wilkes returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Stevenson University in Maryland for a 2 p.m. non-conference match.
