Katie Hughes (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) gave the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute when she scored an empty net goal on the back post after Shelby Trumbo (Landingville, PA/Schuylkill Haven) played her wide. Susquehanna would answer in the 21st minute with a goal of their own when Gracylyn Juckes put pressure on the Wilkes defenders and was able to poke a ball by Lisa Semetti (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) and out run the Lady Colonels defenders slotting the ball into an empty net.In the second half both teams created several good scoring chances, including Lady Colonels Trumbo's shot that hit the top of the crossbar. Neither team was able to score during the final 45 minutes of play as the game went to overtime.In overtime Juckes and Zuponic played a beautiful give-and-go that freed Zuponic in the middle of the box. Zuponic lifted a left footed shot high and to Semetti's left finding the backing of the net and propelling the Crusaders to victory. Despite the loss Wilkes outshot Susquehanna 19-7 for the game and out cornered them 5-1. Semetti made one save in goal while Jennifer Thorsheim made seven saves in goal for the Crusaders.Wilkes (5-4) returns to action Saturday for homecoming when they take on Stevenson University at Schmidt Stadium.
