No. 11 Wilkes Wrestling Goes 3-0 at Home Quad Meet

WILKES-BARRE – The No. 11 Wilkes wrestling team cruised to three victories in its home quad match Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.

The Colonels opened the day with a 45-3 win over Scranton before posting a 50-6 victory over Trinity and a 49-3 decision against Alfred State.

Wilkes earned five extra-point victories against Scranton and added three forfeits at 184, 197 and 285 on way to the decisive win. Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) started off his three-match day with an 18-3 technical fall over Brandon Davis. Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) pinned his opponent at 133 while Mark Misczenski (Easton, PA/Easton) earned a 6-0 decision at 141 as Wilkes led 14-0 after three bouts. Pankil Chander (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence) took a technical fall (16-1) at 149 before major decision wins by Stephen Turner (Plains, PA/Coughlin) (16-4) and Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (14-0) at 165 and 174 respectively sealed the victory.

In the match against Trinity, three straight forfeits pushed the Wilkes lead to 18-0 before Bilal Bici (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) and Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) both earned falls at 149 and 157. Turner posted a technical fall at 165 and Diesel a 7-0 decision at 174 before Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) pinned Taylor Hennessey in 1:39 at 197 to seal the Colonels second victory of the afternoon.

Rea, Grossmann and Chander all earned their third victories of the day in the final match against Alfred. Evans posted a major decision (13-4) at 149 and Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) pinned his opponent in 3:35 at 157 to give Wilkes a 28-0 lead through five bouts. Diesel, Veppert, Bach and Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) all took wins for Wilkes which closed the day with a total of 144 team points.

Wilkes will host TCNJ Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Marts Center on Senior Night.
