Wilkes Volleyball Falls 3-0 to No. 14 Eastern

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 14 Eastern University in a MAC Freedom Conference matchup Tuesday night at the Marts Center,

Wilkes falls to 12-18 overall and 1-5 in league play while Eastern improves to 21-6 overall and remains perfect at 6-0 on the conference season.

The Eagles took the match by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-21. Wilkes held a 21-18 lead late in the third set before Eastern responded scoring seven of the sets next eight points to seal the league win.

Kayley Schinski (Plymouth, PA/Nanticoke) led the Lady Colonels attack with four kills. Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) added three kills and six digs while Julia Winkle (South Wales, NY/Iroquois Central) and Danica Benson (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) each posted six digs from the Wilkes backline. Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Megan Powers (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) split time in the passing game finishing with six and nine assists respectively.

Stephanie Elechko led five Eagles with five or more kills posting a team-high nine kills.

Up next Wilkes travels to Annville, Pa. Friday for day one of the Lebanon Valley Tournament where the Lady Colonels will play Elizabethtown College at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, Wilkes has matchups with Montclair State at 12:00 p.m. before concluding the tourney against the hosts LVC at 4:00 p.m.
