Men's Basketball Falls at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Wilkes University men's basketball team fell by a 73-56 final at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday night in Elizabethtown.

The loss drops the Colonels to 2-2 on the season.

Following a Blue Jays layup 26 seconds into the game, Wilkes used a three-pointer from Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona), two Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) free-throws, and a Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) three-pointer as part of a 6-0 run to put the Colonels up 8-2 with 16:12 remaining in the first half.

With Wilkes leading 32-29 and 1:54 left in the half, Elizabethtown started 10-0 run to end the half and give them a seven point lead at 39-32.

The first basket of the second half was not scored until 2:10 in, with the Blue Jays hitting a layup to push their lead to nine at 41-32. Following that basket the Colonels started a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 41-38 with 16:27 remaining.

With 9:09 remaining in the game and the score 53-48 Elizabethtown, the Blue Jays pushed their lead to 61-48 with a 9-0 lead that ended with 6:12 remaining in the game.

Elizabethtown finished the game on a 12-8 run to finish with its largest lead of the game at 17 points.

Wilkes was led by Brunner, who finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Joining Brunner in double figures was Stravinski with 11 points and nine rebounds, and Wizar, who finished with 10 points.

The Blue Jays were led by Matt Lapkowicz (18 points, nine rebounds) and Tommy James (15 points, six rebounds.

The Colonels return to the court for the annual Cross-County Challenge when it travels to Marywood to face off against Marywood starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
