Men's Basketball Falls in Cross-County Challenge Finale

SCRANTON, Pa.- Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored a career-high 20 points but the Wilkes University men's basketball team fell in the finale of the Cross-County Challenge against Scranton by a 60-50 final on Sunday afternoon at Marywood.

The loss dropped the Colonels to 3-3 on the season.

The Royals started the game on a 10-2 run that ended with 16:51 remaining in the first half. With Scranton up 18-5 and 15:03 on the clock, Wilkes found its offensive stride and went on a 12-1 run to cut the Royals lead to 19-17 with 9:03 remaining. The teams finished the half trading baskets as the Colonels went into halftime down 30-27.

Wilkes outplayed the Scranton in the first 10 minutes of the second half, using a 20-11 run to take its largest lead of the game at six, leading 47-41 with 10:43 left in the game. The Royals finished the game on a 19-3 run to hand the Colonels their third loss of the year.

Robinson led Wilkes with a game-high 20 points. He was joined in double-figures by Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston), who notched his second double-double in as many games, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Scranton was led by Kevin Doolan who finished with 19 points.

The Colonels made the most of their second chances, scoring 12 points compared to three for Scranton. Wilkes got better contributions from its bench as well outscoring the Royals bench eight to one.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, December 2nd when they host Eastern in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener at the Marts Center with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
