Men's Basketball Falls at Manhattanville 84-77
PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Wilkes University men's basketball team led going into halftime, but two extended second half runs led Manhattanville College to the victory in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels fell to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the MAC Freedom with the loss.
Wilkes had the largest lead of the first half at seven points and went into halftime with a 37-32 lead.
The Valiants opened the second half on a 23-7 run to get a 55-44 lead with 13:09 remaining in the game. The Colonels fought back with a 23-8 run of their own to claim a 67-63 lead with 4:52 left on the clock, but Manhattanville finished the game on a 21-10 run.
Wilkes was led by
Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona)'s 24 points.
Clay Basalyga (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) added 11 points off the bench.
The Valiants were led by Anthony Maestre's 28 points. Juan Camacho (15), Dom Arena (13), and Charles Nardone (10) all finished in double-figures.
The Colonels made the most of their second chances, gaining 20 second-chance points compared to seven for Manhattanville. Wilkes' bench outscored the Valiants' bench 34-13.
The Colonels return to action on Thursday when the travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew University in a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
