Wilkes Swim Teams Conclude Action at MAC Championships

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's swimming teams finished the fourth and final day of the Middle Atlantic Conference championships Sunday night at the York YMCA Graham Aquatic Center.

The Wilkes women finished ninth out of the 12 teams who competed at the championships with 93 total team points. The Colonel men finished tenth of the 11 MAC squads who participated with 79 team point .

The relay team of Beth Chmil, Cassie Morey, Mandy Stickles and Lauren Merli (Jessup, PA/Valley View) placed seventh in the finals of the 400 freestyle relay at 3:59.68 setting the school mark in the process. It mark the first podium finish for the women's team since the rebirth of the program this season. Chmil also claimed ninth in the 200 breaststroke finals coming in at 2:39.08, breaking her previous school record time of 2:42.36 set back in October of this season.

Jeff Mastrantuono (Waverly, NY/Waverly) took home ninth in the 200 breaststroke finals with a time of 2:13.44, smashing his previous school record of 2:29.15 in the process. Will Hauze (Wapwallopen, PA/Holy Redeemer) finished 23^rd in the 1650 freestyle finals with a time of 19:52.46 breaking his previous mark of 20:32.68 set in November of this season.

The relay team of Greg O'Malley (Binghamton, NY/Windsor), Chris Bright, Mastrantuono and Austin Paisley (Sugarloaf, PA/Hazleton Area) broke the school mark in the 400 freestyle relay coming in at 3:28.89, over one second better than the squads time back in November of this season.

With the conclusion of the championships, both teams finish their first seasons since the University announced the rebirth of the program's last spring.
