Steve Finkernagel Men's Wrestling 2/18/2015 12:12:00 PM No. 11 Wilkes Wrestling Travels to King’s Thursday for Dual Finale No. 11 Wilkes Wrestling Travels to King's Thursday for Dual Finale No. 11 Wilkes (14-5) vs. King's (5-15)Thursday, February 19Start Time: 7:00 p.m.Wilkes-Barre, Pa. • Scandlon Gymnasium Match Notes Colonels Notebook• In a matchup of top-15 teams, Wilkes fell 18-12 against No. 9 Ithaca, its eighth match against a nationally ranked opponent. • Wilkes upended No. 25 TCNJ 27-12 in its final home dual match of the season. • The Colonels went a perfect 3-0 at its home quad match last Saturday with wins against Scranton (45-3), Trinity (50-6) and Alfred State (49-3). • Wilkes finished third of five teams at the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships with ten Colonels claiming top four finishes. • Of the ten Wilkes finishers, four finished runner up including Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) (133), Sean Lombardi (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) (157), Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (174) and Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) (285). • Four Colonels earned titles at the Will Abele Invitational as Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) (133), Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) (149), Stephen Turner (Plains, PA/Coughlin) (157) and Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (174) all claimed crowns for Wilkes at the event. • Wilkes moved to 10-4 overall after going 3-2 at the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, IN. The Colonels posted wins over ranked opponents in Dubuque, Saint John's and Luther. • Three wrestlers earned top four finishes at the Wilkes Open including 125-pound champion Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg). • Wilkes finished in second place at the Messiah Petrofes Tournament with 154 total team points, just 7.5 points behind champion and No. 1 ranked UW Whitewater who finished with 161.5 points while the Colonels posted 17 more team points than third place and No. 2 Messiah College in the event. • The Colonels went 2-1 at the NY/PA Challenge at King's posting wins over Nassau (22-16) and Hunter College (22-17). • Wilkes finished 2-1 at the John Reese Duals posting wins over Johns Hopkins (38-6) and Gloucester (27-11). • Wilkes posted a 51-0 victory over Penn College in its season opening dual match. Four Colonels earned extra point wins in the match. • The Colonels finished fourth at the 2014 Monarch Invitational to open the season. Wilkes had ten wrestlers finish in the top-six including two individual champions at 133-pounds (Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area)) and 141-pounds (Pankil Chander (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence)). • Fourteen wrestlers have fifteen wins or better and 27 wrestlers stand .500 or better.
