Lady Colonels Fall 81-52 to Eastern
 
WILKES-BARRE, PA – Eastern outscored Wilkes by 19 points in the second half as they cruised to a 81-52 Freedom Conference victory.

Wilkes falls to 8-10, 3-5 in the Freedom while Eastern improves to 16-4 and 8-1 in the conference.

Despite shooting only 20.6 percent (7-34) from the field in the first half Wilkes trailed by only 10 points 30-20.  Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in the first half connecting on two three's. Eastern's Meghan Nowak had a monster first half scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Eastern opened the second half on a 23-8 run to extend their lead to 25 with 11:23 remaining on the clock.  Wilkes was unable to trim the lead below 25 for the remainder of the game as the Eagles cruised to the 29 point win.

Stambone led Wilkes with 15 points and five boards.  Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.  Wilkes shot 27.1 percent (16-59) from the field and made 16-out-of-17 (94.1 percent) foul shots.

Eastern mad nine three's and shot 42.4 percent (28-66) from the field.  Nowak finished with 22 points, 16 boards, and five assists in 28 minutes of action.  Emily Carmel came off the bench to score 11 points and pull down four rebounds while Kaleigh Boreman finished with 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  Eastern dominated the paint outscoring Wilkes 34-12.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when they welcome Back Mountain rival Misericordia University to the Marts Center.  Tip-off is slated for 12:00 p.m.
