Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener at Gettyburg
GETTYSBURG, PA. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team opened its season with a 4-1 loss at Gettysburg College on Tuesday night.
The Colonels fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Bullets improved to 1-0.
Gettysburg opened the scoring with goals by Patrick Santini at 4:34 and 27:20, with assists on both goals going to Henry Smith. The Bullets scored twice again in rapid fashion at 68:13 by Dylan McCluskey off of a helper from Jordy Steelman, and again at 69:42 on a penalty kick by Michael Farese.
Wilkes' lone goal of the night came at 81:00 when
Eddie Metzger (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) headed in a cross from
Jon Lesko (Vestal, NY/Vestal).
Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) suffered the loss in his first collegiate start, making four saves in the game. Peter Como earned the win for Gettysburg with four saves.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host Marywood College in the home opener at Schmidt Stadium.
