No. 18 Wilkes Wrestling Goes 3-0 at Home Quad; Laudenslager Captures 200th Career Win
WILKES-BARRE – The No. 18 Wilkes University wrestling team went a perfect 3-0 at its home quad meet with wins over Alfred State (38-9), RIT (35-15) and Scranton (32-9) Sunday afternoon in the Marts Center.
With the trio of victories, Wilkes improved its overall mark to 14-4 overall. With its second victory over RIT, head coach
Jon Laudenslager (201-81-5) reached the 200-win plateau for his career, standing second all-time in career wins behind legendary Colonel mentor John Reese (514 wins).
In the win over Alfred State,
Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) began the match with a technical fall (16-0) over Michael Boyle at 125 in 1:31.
Samuel Mass (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) followed at 133 with a decision win over Hans Schmieder 8-7 as Wilkes led 13-0.
John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) pushed the Colonel lead to 14-0 after pinning Austin Parker at 141 in 2:48. Corey Fleming followed with back-to-back pins at 149 in 5:18.
Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) (157) received a forfeit before
Matthew Judge (Eynon, PA/Valley View) (165) earned a tough 4-3 decision win over Konnor Kramer as the Colonels led 29-0 after six bouts.
Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) added a 9-3 decision at 184 before
Nicholas Dawson (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville) claimed the Colonel second forfeit at 197 to end the match.
Fleck continued his extra point streak in the win over RIT scoring his second straight technical fall (17-2) at 125.
Richard Gilson (Thompsontown, PA/Juniata) followed with his own technical fall (16-0) at 133 before
Thomas Stokes (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) claimed a 3-1 overtime win at 141 to put Wilkes up 13-0. Racanelli earned his second win of the afternoon with a major decision (12-3) at 157 before two forfeit victories at 184 and 197 extended the advantage to 29-15.
Kyle Gildner (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) wrapped up the match pinning his opponent in 5:16 at heavyweight.
Wilkes concluded the day taking eight of ten bouts in the victory against its local rival Scranton including five extra point wins. Fleck posted his third straight technical fall at 125 followed by a 3-2 decision win from Gilson at 133. Stokes and Ritter each scored major decision victories at 141 and 149 respectively before Racanelli and Ilvento earned decision wins at 157 and 165. Diesel and Dawson rounded out the Colonel winners in the victory with Diesel earning a major decision (11-1) and Dawson a fall at 3:15.
