THE MATCHUP
Wilkes University takes to the road for the third time this season following a bye week when the Colonels face Delaware Valley University on the Aggies Homecoming and Family Day at 12:00 p.m. in Doylestown, Pa. Both teams are coming off of bye weeks. Wilkes fell to FDU-Florham 32-28 two weeks ago while DVU posted a 48-0 victory at Lebanon Valley in week five.
THE HEAD COACHES
Colonels coach
Trey Brown (Colorado '93) enters his third year at the helm of the program in 2016. In just two years, Brown has coached fifteen Colonels who earned All-MAC honors including first team tight end Jeremy Hartman in 2014 and
Jason Ugwu (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) in 2015. Under Brown's guidance, the Colonels offense ranked in the top five in several offensive statistical categories including passing yards and plays per-game. In a game at Delaware Valley in 2014, the Wilkes offense ran 113 plays, a Division III regulation game record. Brown came to Wilkes after four years serving as the quarterbacks and special teams' coordinator at Muhlenberg. In his role with the Mules, Brown was responsible for coaching the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and special teams as well as the installation of the pass game. Prior to his time at Muhlenberg, Brown spent four seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Lehigh University. The Mountain Hawk offense scored 30 or more points 15 times during his tenure and led the Patriot League in scoring in 2006, when its quarterback was named to the All-Patriot League first team.
Duke Greco (Delaware Valley '03) enters his third season at the helm of the Aggies' football program in 2016. Last year, Greco led DVU to a 9-2 overall mark and a second place finish in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) with a 7-2 record. The Aggies made their 12th postseason appearance in the last 13 campaigns and defeated Moravian College, 20-16 in the inaugural MAC-Centennial Bowl Series. All of this came with 20 new starters on the field, including all 11 on offense (seven defense, two kickers).
Fourteen Aggies received all-MAC honors, including Rashaad Lighty, who went on to earn D3football.com All-America first team accolades. Greco had quite a first year as head coach at Delaware Valley as he led the 2014 edition to a 9-0 start and a berth and home game in the NCAA Division III playoffs. He was named as the head coach following an 11-year stint as an assistant coach at his alma mater, including eight as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
THE SERIES
This will be the 53rd meeting between the two schools as the Colonels hold a 31-21 advantage in the series. Wilkes stunned Delaware Valley last year under the lights at Schmidt Stadium with a 12-7 win in front of the home crowd in week two.
