Three First Half Goals Lead Manhattanville Past Wilkes Men's Soccer 5-1
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team surrendered three first half goals, two on penalty shots, as Manhattanville College spoiled senior day by handing the Colonels a 5-1 defeat at Schmidt Stadium on Saturday evening.
Wilkes finished its season 1-6-0 in MAC Freedom play, 3-14 overall.
The Valiants got on the board in the 21
st minute, and followed it with a penalty shot goal in the 22
nd minute.
Sophomore
Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 31
st minute when sophomore
Alvaro Fernandez-Maldonado (Louisville, CO/Scranton) headed a pass from the middle to the left, hitting Huff in stride allowing him to drill a shot in the lower right
corner past Manhattanville's goalkeeper.
The Valiants added a second penalty shot goal in the 36
th minute, followed by goals in the 55
th and 65
th minutes to reach the final.
