Wilkes Swimming Completes First Day of Diamond City Invitational
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's swim teams completed the first day of the Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College at the CYC on Saturday.
The women stand in 10
th place out of 12 following the late session, while the men are 6
th out of 12.
The men started the first session on a good note as the team of
Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institutional Technology),
Anthony Stampone (Kent Island, MD/Kent Island),
Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy), and
Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.76.
Weatherby finished 10
th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.08.
D. Parfianowicz finished seventh in the 50 free with a time of 22.61, followed by J. Parfianowicz in the 14
th place at 23.46.
The relay team of D. Parfianowicz,
Nick Walker (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area), Weatherby, and J. Parfianowicz broke the program record in the 400 Medley with a time of 3:55.48, good for sixth place.
In the night session, the relay team of D. Parfianowicz, Walker, Stampone, and
Christopher Bright (Robesonia, PA/Conrad Weiser) finished eighth in the 200 medley with a time of 1:46.88.
Walker finished ninth in the 400 IM with a time of 5:11.66.
Weatherby set a program-record in the 100 fly, finishing in eighth place with a time of 56.02, followed by Stampone in 13
th place with a time of 58.53.
Bright finished 12
th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.21.
D. Parfianowicz finished seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.37.
The relay team of Weatherby, Walker, J. Parfianowicz, and Stampone set a new program-record in the 800 freestyle relay, finishing in 8:01.47, good for seventh place to finish the first day.
The women started the first session with a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle as the team of
Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton),
Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover),
Shannon Hogan (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), and
Cassie Morey (Chemung, NY/Waverly) had a time of 1:46.97.
Williams finished 16
th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:43.27.
Aspey placed 16
th in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:31.88.
Morey finished 15
th in the 50 freestyle with a time 26.57.
The team of Hogan,
Kyleigh Smeltzer (Manchester, PA/Northeastern),
Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover), and
Cassie Morey (Chemung, NY/Waverly) finished 10
th in the 400 medley with a time of 4:37.88 to finish the early session.
The relay team of Hogan, Smeltzer, Morey, and Williams opened the second session with a 10
th place finish in the 200 medley with a time of 2:04.76.
Aspey finished 14
th in the 400 IM, finishing in 5:20.17.
Hogan was the eighth place finished in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.48.
The teams return to the pool tomorrow at 10 am for the final session.
