Alfano Shines as Wilkes Women's Basketball Records 59-54 Win Over Keystone

Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) poured in a career-high 22 points including four three-pointers and
Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) hit a clutch three-point basket late to lead Wilkes University to a 59-54 victory over visiting Keystone College Wednesday night.
Wilkes improves to 3-6 overall following the home win while Keystone drops to 3-6 on the season after the defeat.
Wilkes opened up a 19-7 lead after one quarter of play thanks to the hot shooting of
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) who drained three three-pointers in the 13-0 run to close the frame. Keystone answered back to start the second quarter tying the game at 19 after Hannah Zuchowski converted a three-point play with 6:13 on the clock. Alfano connected on her fourth triple of the first half before a 10-2 run over the final three minutes of the second stanza put Keystone ahead 27-26 at the break.
Wilkes began a second half surge over the first five minutes of the third quarter erasing the one-point deficit taking a 44-35 lead with 3:46 on clock.
Ashley Caster (York, PA/Spring Grove) scored six straight points including back-to-back layups in transition to cap the scoring rally for the Lady Colonels. The Giants would not go away easy though using an 8-0 run over the final 1:34 of the third to trail 46-45 after three quarters of play.
The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter before Roberts connected on the clutch three-point basket with :50 remaining and Wilkes down by one. Following a Keystone turnover, Caster made one of two free throws to push the lead to 57-54 before Nina Hodanich missed long on a game-tying three-point attempt with four seconds left.
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) scooped up the rebound and sealed the home non-conference win making both attempts from the charity stripe for the Lady Colonels.
Alfano finished 7-for-9 on way to her career-best 22-point night canning 4-of-5 three-pointers. Caster followed with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Bryce Garrett led Keystone offensively with a team-high 12 points and six rebounds.
Wilkes returns to the court Saturday hosting Clarks Summit University at 1:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
