GARNET VALLEY, PA – Dickinson College's starter Christian Acosta went six innings allowing just two hits and no runs as the Red Devils blanked Wilkes University 4-0 in the Colonels season opener Sunday afternoon at the Maplezone Sports Institute.
 
Dickinson did most of its damage with the bats in the first inning plating three runs on five hits including an RBI triple and two base scoring singles.
 
The Red Devils added one more insurance run in the top of the fourth using an RBI double to score its run following a leadoff runner who reached on an error by the Wilkes shortstop.
 
The Colonels hit the ball hard on offense, but only could manage two hits through the nine inning affair as Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) and Tanner Smith (Upper Black Eddy, PA/Palisades) accounted for the Wilkes base runners.
 
Quinn Kelly (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) suffered the loss in his first start of the season going 3.1 innings allowing eight hits and four runs (three earned). The rest of the Colonel staff threw a scoreless and hitless final six innings.
 
Wilkes takes to the road for its annual Spring Break trip Friday in Fort Pierce, FL as the Colonels play nine games in eight days during the week.
