Following a fielder's choice force out at the plate, sophomore Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) reached on an rbi fielder's choice in which everybody reached base and Reese scored due to a throwing error. Junior James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) was then hit by a pitch to drive in Herbst, followed by a two-run single from freshman Sam Eyler (York, PA/West York) that drove in sophomore Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) and Champi to give Wilkes a 4-1 lead.

The Nittany Lions responded in the bottom of the third with a run on two hits to cut the Colonels lead to 4-2.
