Wilkes Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Delaware Valley
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University softball team fell in both games of its Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Delaware Valley University on Thursday afternoon, dropping the first game 5-4 and the second game 7-4.
The Lady Colonels fell to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in MAC Freedom play with the loss.
In the first game, the Aggies scored four runs in the first inning before Wilkes responded with a one run in the third and fifth and two runs in the seventh to tie the score before Delaware Valley hit a walk-off single to win the game.

Nicole Cumbo (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) went 6.2 innings in the first game surrendering five earned runs on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts to fall to 2-3 this season.

Grace Sanzalone (Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingstone) went 2-for-3 at the plate with one rbi to pace Wilkes.
In the second game, the Aggies jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings, but the Lady Colonels scored two runs in the top of the third and two in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-4. Delaware Valley responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 that Wilkes was unable to come back from.

Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) went six innings surrendering seven runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts to fall to 1-3 on the season.

Sarah Birchmeier (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), who finished the game 2-for-4 while junior
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 1-for-4 with two rbi's.
The Lady Colonels return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Lycoming College for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
