KINGSTON – The Wilkes University baseball team pounded out 17 hits, including six for extra bases, in its 10-4 win over Penn State-Berks at Artillery Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 15-12 with the victory.

Wilkes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as freshman Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) led off with a double, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the third baseman.  Sophomore Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) followed with a walk, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Sophomore Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) singled to drive in Wing and stole second to put runners at second and third with one out. Senior Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) then laced a double to left-center to drive in both Clymer and Champi. The Colonels added on another run in the bottom of the third when freshman Jack Fischer (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Herbst, and increased the lead to 5-0 when freshman Matt Dacey (Mountaintop, PA/Holy Redeemer) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Wing.
