Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Falls Against King's 16-5
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting King's College raced out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back posting a 16-5 victory over host Wilkes University Wednesday night in a MAC Freedom matchup at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes falls to 0-10 overall on the year and 0-2 in league play while King's improves to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference games after the victory.
King's jumped out to an 11-3 lead at the half thanks to seven first quarter goals. Wilkes received goals from
Matthew Bush (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) (twice) and
Nicholas Ruggiero (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) in a three-goal first half.
John Wink (Glenside, Pa./Abington) scored three minutes into the third stanza to cut the lead to 11-4. King's answered with the final two goals of the quarter to push the lead to 13-4 after three quarters.
Max Brown (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) scored Wilkes final goal of the night off an assist from Wink with 9:12 left in the final period. King's scored three goals in the final frame to seal the win with two strikes coming over the final four minutes of play.
King's held a decisive advantage in the faceoff circle winning 17-of-22 draws.
Brian Manning (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) finished with eight saves in net for Wilkes.
