Wilkes Softball Drops Two at No. 23 Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Wilkes University softball team dropped a pair of games at No. 23 Manhattanville College falling 8-0 in five innings in game one before dropping a 13-0 decision in five innings in game two Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes slips to 7-17 overall and 2-6 in MAC Freedom games while Manhattanville improves to 25-1 and remains atop the conference with an 8-1 mark.

Manhattanville scored one run in each of the first three innings of game one before posting two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to seal the 8-0 win in five innings. Nicole Cumbo (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) pitched all but one out in the game allowing ten hits and four earned runs. Wilkes managed just three hits throughout because of the Valiants pitching which struck out three batters in the game.

The Manhattanville bats picked up where they left off in game two scoring four runs in the first inning before exploding for seven tallies in the third in a five-inning win. Wilkes again just managed three hits in game two. Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) managed two of Wilkes' six hits over the doubleheader.

Wilkes returns home Tuesday when the Lady Colonels host cross-town rival King's College for a MAC Freedom doubleheader scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
