Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Wins Regular Season Finale 12-11 in OT

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Jessyca Held (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored three goals including the game-winner with 4:42 left in the first overtime to lift visiting Wilkes University to a 12-11 victory over host Manhattanville College Wednesday afternoon.

Wilkes finishes the regular season with a 12-4 overall record standing 4-2 in MAC Freedom games. Manhattanville falls to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in league games with one contest remaining on Saturday. Wilkes has clinched the No. 3 overall seed in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament.

After Manhattanville rallied for two goals late in the second half to tie the game at 11-11, Held wasted little time notching the game-winning tally scoring a man-up goal with 4:42 on the clock as Wilkes escaped with the road conference win.

Wilkes opened a 5-2 lead midway through the first thanks to three straight goals from Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown), Kyra Boccio (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon). Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) and Held went back-to-back before three Manhattanville goals kept things close with Wilkes leading 6-4 at the half.

Goals from Kerr and Held gave Wilkes a 11-9 lead with just 9:17 remaining in regulation, but the host Valiants rallied for two goals to tie the game and send it to overtime before Held's heroics in the extra frame clinched it for the Lady Colonels.

Kerr led the Wilkes offensive attack with five goals while Held notched three tallies and one assist. Brownsey finished with two goals.

Tabitha Gravius (Howell, NJ/Manalapan) finished with a season-high 19 saves to preserve the win in net for Wilkes.

Wilkes, which earned the No. 3 seed in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament, will play at the loser of FDU-Florham and Misericordia which will be played Saturday. Game time for Wednesday semifinal contest will be posted early next week.
