Wilkes Women's Volleyball Opens 2016 with 3-0 Victory Over PSU-Hazleton
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team wasted little time claiming its first win of 2016 cruising to a 3-0 victory over visiting Penn State Hazleton Thursday night at the Marts Center.
Wilkes moves to 1-0 following the season opening win.
The Lady Colonels took set one 25-16 playing mostly freshman before cruising to 25-7 and 25-3 victories in sets two and three to seal the home debut win.
Rookies
Michele Natale (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley) led the way offensively for Wilkes finishing with six kills each while Natale added two solo blocks.
Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and
Grace Boyle (Andreas, PA/Marian Catholic) each contributed four kills.
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) paced the passing game with a match-high 16 assists while libero
Juliet Betke (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) finished with a team-best nine digs form the backline.
Wilkes returns to the court Saturday hosting a quad match at the Marts Center. Wilkes faces Penn College at 10:00 a.m. before matches with Lycoming College at 12:00 p.m. and Clarks Summit University at 2:00 p.m.
