Two Early Goals Lead Wilkes Field Hockey to 3-0 Win over Scranton
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Two goals in the first 16 minutes led the Wilkes University field hockey team to a 3-0 win over the University of Scranton at Schmidt Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Colonels improved to 7-3 on the season with the victory.
Senior
Maura Anistranski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) got Wilkes on the board in the 12
th minute when she lined a shot off Royals goalkeeper Tate Ackerman, collected her own rebound, and put a shot into the net.
Sophomore
Megan Kane (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) extended the lead to 2-0 in the 16
th minute when freshman
Gianna Gennetts (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) took a shot that was deflected up in the air by a Scranton defender and knocked out of the air and in by Gennetts.
Gennetts finished the scoring in the 39
th minute when she dribbled left at the top of the circle and backhanded a shot through traffic to the back of the net.
Sophomore
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) earned her fourth shutout of the season while making 10 saves.
The Lady Colonels return to action on Friday when they host FDU-Florham in their MAC Freedom-opening game starting at 7:30 at Schmidt Stadium.
