Wilkes Men's Basketball Drops 80-64 Decision at Delaware Valley
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's basketball team dropped an 80-64 decision to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Delaware Valley in Doylestown on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels fell to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in MAC Freedom play with the loss.
Delaware Valley started the game on a 6-0 run through the first 1:45 before Wilkes sophomore
Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) ended the run with a three-pointer to cut the deficit in half. One possession later, freshman
Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) converted a layup and the following free-throw after getting fouled to tie the game at six with 17:30 remaining in the half. The Colonels trailed by two before the Aggies started an 8-0 run to take a 23-13 lead with 10:29 on the clock, and outscored the Colonels 29-20 over the final 13:22 to take a 42-33 lead into the half.
Junior
Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) made two free throws in the first minute of the second half to bring the deficit into single digits, but Delaware Valley outpaced the Colonels 38-31 to the victory.
Wilkes was led by Robinson, who finished with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Mullins and junior
John Goffredo (Bangor, PA/Pius X) totaled nine points each.
The Aggies were led by Tyliek Kimbrough, who totaled a game-high 33 points with seven assists and six rebounds. Tyrea Williams (14 points, 10 rebounds), Mike Cianciulli (12 points, three rebounds), and Alex Mastinye (11 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Delaware Valley.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday when they travel to FDU-Florham for an 8 p.m. MAC Freedom contest.
