Two Second Half Goals Sink Wilkes Women's Soccer at DeSales 2-0

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 2-0 defeat at DeSales University in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the Lady Colonels fell to 9-2-2 on the season and to 3-1-0 in MAC Freedom play. The Bulldogs improved to 8-5-0 overall and to 3-1-0 in conference action.

Wilkes started strong by registering three of the game's first four shot attempts within the first 14 minutes of play. They held the four to three shots advantage in the scoreless first half.

DeSales would strike for the game's first goal at the 49:16 mark when MAC Freedom goal scoring leader Angelica Bertola took a pass over the top of the Wilkes defense and made a move past junior goalkeeper Courtney Stanley (Yardville, NJ/Steinert) and shot the ball in off the post.

In the 57th minute the Lady Colonels had chances to tie the game but shots by junior Nicolette Towlen (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) and freshman Elise Brubaker (Northumberland, PA/Shikellamy) were both saved.

Stanley made saves in the 62nd and 68th minutes to keep the Wilkes deficit at just one goal but shots by Towlen and sophomore Delfina Bracchi (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) were both saved in the 71st and 74th minutes respectively.

The Bulldogs added a second goal at the 74:22 mark when Sophie Goad scored.

Shots on goal were even at six with Stanley making four saves for the Lady Colonels. Towlen led all players with four shots and three on goal.

Wilkes will look to rebound from the loss when it faces No. 19 Misericordia University on Wednesday, October 18 in Dallas, Pa. at 6:30 p.m.
