WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's swim team opened the 2017 season and finished third at the inaugural Colonel Splash and Dash Invite at the Wyoming Valley CYC on Saturday morning, finishing with a total of 330 points.

Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) had a successful collegiate debut, setting new program records in the 100 butterfly at 1:04.31 with a first place finish and in the 100 IM, finishing third in 1:05.88. Keating also finished second in the 50 butterfly at 29.22.

 Kyleigh Smeltzer (Manchester, PA/Northeastern) came in third in the 50 breaststroke at 34.97 and eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.05.

Morgan Williams (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) finished sixth in the 50 backstroke in 33.21, sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.32, and seventh in the 100 backstroke at 1:14.74.

Jordan Zbegner (Dupont, PA/Pittston Area) came in fifth in the 50 breaststroke at 36.01 and ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.33.

Allie Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) came in sixth in the 50 butterfly with a time of 31.06 and eighth in the 100 butterfly at 1:09.71.

The relay team of Keating, Smeltzer, Aspey, and Williams finished second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:12.39. The team of Williams, Tyler Weatherby, Smeltzer, and Justin Burda came in third in the mixed 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:27.02. Keating, Smeltzer, Burda, and Justin Byrne were fourth in the mixed 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.25.

The Lady Colonels return to the pool on Friday when they head to Arcadia for a 6:00 p.m. MAC meet.
