Wilkes Women's Volleyball Shuts Out Delaware Valley 3-0
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's volleyball teamed earned its first win in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a 3-0 shutout of Delaware Valley University on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Colonels improved to 8-16 overall and 1-5 in MAC Freedom play.
In set one, Delaware Valley led 12-9 before Wilkes went on an 8-0 run, eventually taking the set 25-18.
Neither team was able to separate itself in set two before the Lady Colonels took four consecutive points to go up 23-20 before the Aggies battled back 23-23. Wilkes took the advantage with Delaware Valley matching to make it 24-24 but consecutive errors gave the Lady Colonels the set 26-24.
In set three the Aggies took an early 9-5 lead with Wilkes battling back to tie the score at 15. The Lady Colonels rattled off eight consecutive tallies, winning the final game 25-19.
The offense was led by
Jamey Mikovich (Nesquehoning, PA/Panther Valley), who finished with a match-high 12 kills, followed by
Alex Ferrier (Cressona, PA/Blue Mountain)'s 11 and
Kayley Schinski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke)'s six.
Alexis Morgan (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) finished with a match-high 28 assists. Mikovich led the back line with a match-high 20 digs.
Juliet Betke (Poplar Grove, IL/Belvidere North) and Morgan added 13 and 12, respectively.
Wilkes returns to action this weekend when it will host the second annual Colonel Clash Tournament, which will feature Morrisville State, Keystone, Catholic, Kean, and Moravian.
