Gayoski's Late Penalty Stoke Pushes Wilkes Field Hockey Past King's 2-1
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes University field hockey team picked up a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom road win 2-1 at King's College Wednesday night. Junior
Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) scored the game-winning goal with under two minutes remaining on a penalty stroke.
Wilkes improved to 7-8 overall and to 3-2 in MAC Freedom action after picking up its fourth-straight win. King's, the defending conference champion, fell to 8-8 overall and to 3-2 in conference games.
With two games remaining in the conference season the Lady Colonels are in a three-way tie for third with King's and DeSales. Wilkes currently holds the tie-breaker with wins over both teams.
King's took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Anna Morgan scored at the 17:19 mark.

Megan Kane (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Valley West) provided the pass on a penalty corner. It was the seventh assist of the season for Kane. Gayoski tallied the winner with 1:44 left on a penalty stoke for her seventh goal of the season and her fourth in the past two games. She now has nine career goals.

Wilkes held the 10-8 edge in shots and the 8-4 shots on goal advantage.
