Wilkes Field Hockey Falls to Elizabethtown 1-0
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University field hockey team outshot Elizabethtown College in the second half but could not find the equalizing goal in a 1-0 loss at Schmidt Stadium Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Wilkes fell to 3-8 on the season while Elizabethtown moved to 5-6.
Junior
Dallas Kendra (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) made three saves for the Lady Colonels in the first half. The Wilkes backline consisting of junior
Haley Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) and freshmen
Kacee Diehl (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton) and
Zoe Stepanski (Dallas, PA/Dallas) along with Kendra in goal prevented quality shot opportunities for the Blue Jays in the second half. They only allowed one shot that went wide.
Elizabethtown stuck for the game's lone goal at the 8:56 mark when Charity Good played the ball in from the left side and Emily Garvin provided the tip in goal from just in front of the Lady Colonels cage.
Wilkes held the five to four shots on goal advantage with senior
Marissa Surdy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) leading the way with four shots and three on goal. Senior
Keighlyn Oliver (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) and Gayoski had the other two shots on goal for the Lady Colonels.
The Lady Colonels are currently 0-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom games this season and will look for their first conference win when they host DeSales University at Schmidt Stadium on Saturday, October 7 at 5:00 p.m.
