EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team outshot FDU-Florham 19 to nine but fell 1-0 in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest Saturday night at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes fell to a 6-6-0 overall record on the season and to 1-1-0 in MAC Freedom play. FDU-Florham picked up its first win moving to 1-10-0 and to 1-1-0 in the conference.

Wilkes came close to finding the go-ahead goal several times in the second half. Sophomore Cole Hefner (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh)'s shot at the 51:07 mark was saved by the Devils goalkeeper. Less than two minutes later junior Camry Huff (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) nearly scored a goal for the fifth straight game after outrunning a defender and taking a shot that went just wide to the near post.

Sophomore Kyle Bentz (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) saw his shot go high in the 62nd minute and then Huff just missed the far post at the 74:13 mark with a fantastic chance. Huff led Wilkes with seven shots and three on goal.

John Timmes provided the winning goal for the Devils at the 83:49 mark with a blast from 30 yards out that stayed just under the crossbar.

Junior goalkeeper Tim Gallagher (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) made two saves for the Colonels. Wilkes held the seven to three shots on goal advantage and had the five to one lead in corner kicks.

The Colonels will continue MAC Freedom play when they host King's College on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
