Wilkes Men's Swimming Completes Day One of Diamond City Invitational
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's swim team completed day one of the 2017 Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College at the Wyoming Valley CYC on Saturday.

The Colonels stand in fifth place out of 11 teams after the first day.
The relay team of
Jared Byrne (Pequea, PA/Penn Manor),
Anthony Stampone (Kent Island, MD/Kent Island),
Justin Burda (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), and
Nick Martino (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) broke the program record in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:42.14. The team of
Jacob Wessner (Auburn, PA/Blue Mountain), Byrne, Burda, and Martino set a new record in the 400 medley relay, finishing in 3:51.64. The team of Martino,
Chase Osborne (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack), Stampone, and Byrne finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.89. The team of Burda,
Cameron Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover),
Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institutional Technology), and
Mike Pettit (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area Jr/Sr) came in eighth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:14.37.
Byrne led off the 200 relay by breaking the record for the 50 back stroke, finishing his leg in 25.83. Byrne also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle in 22.30 and sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.39.
Burda finished ninth in the 100 butterfly at 55.81 and 21
st in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.60.
Stampone came in 12
th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.29 and 29
th in the 50 freestyle at 24.09.
Weatherby was 14
th in the 100 butterfly finishing in 57.69 and 17
th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.32.
The Colonels return to the pool tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for the final session.
