Wilkes Wrestling Goes 2-3 at Mount Union Duals
ALLIANCE, OH – The Wilkes University wrestling team finished 2-3 at the Mount Union Duals Saturday afternoon at the Peterson Field House.
Wilkes stands 3-6 overall in dual matches following the five-match event. The Colonels posted wins against Alma (34-8) and Greensboro (31-13) before falling to Heidelberg (27-24), host Mount Union (33-9) and Baldwin Wallace (43-3).
In the match with Heidelberg,
Matthew Grossmann (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) gave the Colonels a 12-6 lead after pinning Isaac Hager in 5:00 at 141-pounds.
Josh Evans (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) saw his first action of the year pinning Joseph Damm in 5:00 at 149-pounds to push the Wilkes advantage to 18-6 after four bouts.
Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) gave Wilkes its third fall of the match at 165-pounds pinning Chris White in 3:00 as the Colonels continued to lead 24-9. Heidelberg answered back with a fall at 184 and a forfeit at 197 before another fall at 285 clinched the match.
Wilkes' two wins against host Mount Union came at 133 and 197 as
Jake Dimarsico (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) earned a 9-3 decision and
Jacob Huling (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) a fall in 3:47 respectively.
The Colonels took eight of the ten bouts against Alma in the convincing 34-8 victory.
Kyle Trout (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led-off the match with an 11-3 major decision at 125-pounds before Dimarsico went 8-5 over Chase Beecher at 133.
Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) dominated Jacob Anderson at 149-pounds winning by technical fall 17-1 as Wilkes led 12-3 after four bouts.
Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) earned a 16-1 technical fall at 157-pounds before an 8-3 decision for
Brett McGill (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) at 165-pounds.
John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) made it three technical falls for the Colonels in the match winning 16-0 at 174-pounds before
Matthew Judge (Eynon, PA/Valley View) (fall in 1:18 at 184) and
Jacob Huling (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) (3-2 decision at 285) closed out the Wilkes victory.
Medrow was the lone Wilkes winner against Baldwin Wallace scoring a 9-8 decision over Stanley Bleich at 149.
Wilkes finished the day with a double-figure win over Greensboro College. Trout went 8-6 over Dylan Cook at 125 before two straight decision wins for Greensboro put Wilkes down 6-3. The Colonels received a forfeit at 149 followed by four straight wins including two more forfeits and a major decision from
Justin Morel (Corona, NY/Mt. St. Michael Academy) (15-2) at 174-pounds.
John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) sealed the win with a fall in 1:46 at 184-pounds.
Wilkes returns to the mat next Saturday traveling to Westminster, Maryland to compete at the McDaniel Duals hosted by McDaniel College.
