WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's swimming team defeated Penn State Altoona by a team score of 110-70 Friday night at the Wyoming Valley CYC in a non-conference meet. Wilkes swimmers took first place in nine of the 11 events.

With the victory Wilkes is now 5-4 overall this season while Penn State Altoona is 1-5.

Jared Byrne (Pequea, PA/Penn Manor) just missed beating the Wilkes record in the 100 Backstroke. He finished first in the event in 57.66 with Dominic Parfianowicz's record time of 57.38 still standing. Later in the night he won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:07.03.

Mike Pettit (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area Jr/Sr) won two events. He finished the 1000 Freestyle in 1:43.39 to take first place and the won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:36.93.

Tyler Weatherby (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester County Institutional Technology) won the 200 Freestyle in 1:57.56. He finished second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 53.11.

Nick Martino (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) won the 100 Freestyle in 52.27 and took third place in the 200 Freestyle finishing in 1:58.33.

Chase Osborne (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack) finished first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.39.

Justin Burda (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) took first place with a time of 56.66 in the 100 Butterfly.

Tyler Deters (Cogan Station, PA/Montoursville) finished in 24.43 to take second in the 50 Freestyle.

Christopher Daley (Bethlehem, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) finished second in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 1:44.84 and placed third in the 50 Freestyle in 26.05.

Jacob Wessner (Auburn, PA/Blue Mountain) finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.03 and finished third in the 100 Backstroke in 1:03.18.

Cameron Aspey (Dover, PA/Dover) finished the 100 Butterfly in third place with a time of 1:01.49.

Wilkes finished first and second in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Martino, Burda, Weatherby, and Byrne placed first in 3:35.65 and the team of Deters, Daniel Mack (Hanover, PA/New Oxford), Pettit, and Aspey was second with a time of 3:44.76.

The Colonels will enjoy over a month break before returning to the pool and Middle Atlantic Conference action Saturday, January 13 at Misericordia University at 1:00 p.m.
