Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls 69-39 at Misericordia
DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes University women's basketball team traveled to Misericordia University where it fell 69-39 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Colonels fell to 5-18 overall and 0-12 in MAC Freedom play with the loss.
Misericordia opened the game on a 7-0 run before Wilkes went on an 8-3 run keyed by seven straight points from senior
Missy Oertner (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) to close the gap to 11-8 with 1:13 left before the Cougars finished the half on a 7-0 run to close the first quarter with an 18-8 lead.
Misericordia outscored the Lady Colonels 19-11 in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 37-19 lead.
The Cougars outscored Wilkes 32-20 in the second half to reach the final.
The Lady Colonels were led by Oertner, who finished with a career-high 15 points to go with six rebounds. Wilkes was also led by senior
Haley Mesaros (Royersford, PA/Pope John Paul II), who contributed seven points and three rebounds, and freshman
Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross), who contributed seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
Misericordia was led by senior Rachel Carmody's 28 points and six rebounds. Senior Justine Seely added 11 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks, while sophomore Japriya Carroll added 10 points.
The Lady Colonels return to action on Tuesday when they host King's at 6:00 p.m. Prior to Tuesday's MAC Freedom matchup, Wilkes will honor its three senior players with a pre-game ceremony.
