WILKES-BARRE – Brittany Deieso came off the bench to score a game-high 26 points to lead visiting Manhattanville College over Wilkes University 62-47 Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.

Wilkes fell to 5-16 overall and 0-10 in league games following the home defeat while Manhattanville improved to 8-13 overall and recorded its third conference win of the season standing 3-7.

The teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter before a 7-1 Manhattanville run to end the frame put the Valiants ahead 14-8. Wilkes began to claw its way back late in the second quarter using scores from Asdone Hooper (Hanover, PA/Hanover Area), Emelie Meinhart (Bowmanstown, PA/Palmerton) and one of two free throws from Haley Mesaros (Royersford, PA/Pope John Paul II) to cut the Manhattanville lead to three down 24-21 at the break.

Wilkes outscored Manhattanville 14-11 over the third quarter taking its largest lead of the contest up 30-26 when Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic) scored in transition with 5:56 left in the stanza. The game went into the fourth and deciding frame tied at 35.

From there it was Manhattanville who found its rhythm offensively outscoring Wilkes 27-12 over the final ten minutes of the game to seal the 62-47 victory on the road.

Hooper led Wilkes with 10 points and three rebounds off the bench. Missy Pertner followed with nine points and nine boards while Meinhart added eight points and four rebounds.

Deieso was the lone Valiant in double figures shooting 8-for-13 from the field doing most of her damage at the free throw line as evident by her 10-of-11 performance from the stripe.

Wilkes continues its MAC Freedom push on Wednesday hosting DeSales University at 6:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
